Day 1: Day 1: Welcome to Hobart

Begin your exploration of the beautiful island of Tasmania with a city sights tour. Hobart was founded in 1803 and much of its architecture dates back to the Victorian and Georgian eras. Visit the Botanic Gardens, historic Battery Point, and Constitution Dock, then drive to Mt. Nelson for panoramic views over the city and Derwent River. Join your Travel Director for a Welcome Reception and dinner. (DW)

Day 2: Salamanca Market and Included Choice

This morning, explore the myriad market stalls of Salamanca Market, and wander through its historic sandstone warehouses.

Included Choice - This afternoon choose one from a selection of Included Choice sightseeing experiences. Join a walking tour with a local expert for an insight in to Hobart’s history, people and places or a guided walk to experience the alcohol history of the city. Or visit Mawson’s Huts Replica Museum, replicating the huts Douglas Mawson built in Antarctica during his Australasian Antarctic expedition of 1911-14. (B)

Day 3: Hobart - Strahan

This morning stroll through rainforest to the tiered falls of Russell Falls. Then take the winding road to iconic Lake St. Clair before travelling to The Wall in the Wilderness, a monumental sculpture hand-carved in rare Huon pine. Continue through the rainforest, passing through the moonscape of the mining town of Queenstown. Your final stop today is Strahan: enjoy views of peaceful Macquarie Harbour from your hillside hotel. Day 4: Strahan - Cradle Mountain

A highlight today is your cruise on the Gordon River. Be awestruck by the dark waters: stained amber by buttongrass tannins, which reflect the untouched wilderness. Stop at Sarah Island for an insight into a relic of Tasmania’s convict history, the Macquarie Harbour Penal Settlement. See Hells Gates, the notoriously treacherous entrance to the harbour, and Heritage Landing, site of a 2,000-year-old Huon Pine. Travel through the old towns of Rosebery and Tullah on route to your hotel. (B,L,DW)

Day 5: Cradle Mountain

This morning, marvel at the inspiring beauty of Cradle Mountain National Park. Join your Travel Director for a guided walk by Dove Lake, maybe taking a little more time later to meander back to your hotel along the purpose-built boardwalk through the wild ancient forests and alpine heathlands. You may spot Bennetts wallabies, echidnas and pademelons grazing along the way. For a more challenging hike, head to Marion’s Lookout and return via Wombat Pool. (B,DW)

Day 6: Cradle Mountain - Launceston

Today, enjoy a guided walk through a working distillery to see processes that deliver one of the finest single malt whiskys in the world. Then continue to quirky Sheffield, the ‘Town of Murals’, before heading to 41° South Salmon & Ginseng Farm. The Pyka family will take you on a tour to learn about aquaculture, then let you sample their smoked salmon and ginseng products. Call in at the Ashgrove Cheese Factory to try a selection of local cheeses, before you continue through the Meander Valley to Tasmania’s ‘northern capital’ Launceston. (B,DW)

Day 7: Launceston

This morning, after visiting Launceston’s magnificent Cataract Gorge, take a scenic drive through rolling country hills and pause for lunch and wine-tasting at Josef Chromy Wines. This afternoon you may like to take an optional cruise on the beautiful Tamar River or further explore Launceston and surrounds at your leisure. (B,L)

Day 8: Launceston - Freycinet

Today, visit Bridestowe Lavender Estate, producer of high-quality lavender since 1922. Learn about the estate and treat yourself to its famous lavender ice-cream. Later visit the unique Legerwood Carved Memorial Trees site. Then follow the picturesque east coast south to Freycinet National Park. (B,DW)

Day 9: Freycinet National Park & Wineglass Bay

Experience the exquisite beauty of Wineglass Bay today on a four-hour cruise of the Freycinet Peninsula. The cruise will take you from the shores of Coles Bay along the Freycinet coast beneath towering pink granite cliffs to one of the world’s best beaches. Anchored at Wineglass Bay, absorb the beauty of the National Park while enjoying a gourmet ploughman’s lunch. (B,L,DW)

Day 10: Freycinet - Hobart

Journey this morning to historic Ross, considered the nest nineteenth-century village in Australia. As you travel on through rich pastoral land towards Hobart, spend time at Shene Estate, whose custodian Anne Kernke will treat you to a walking tour of the property’s stunning colonial-era buildings, and a Be My Guest morning tea selection of home-baked goodies in her private home. Continue to Hobart to visit Australia’s largest privately-funded museum, the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA). The eclectic mix of ancient, modern and contemporary art will astound you. (B,BMGMT)

Day 11: Port Arthur

Today, explore the Port Arthur Historic Site, taking a cruise around the Isle of the Dead and a walk to through the infamous convict prison. There will also be time for you to wander the site at your leisure. On the drive back to Hobart, see the amazing natural rock formations of the craggy Tasman Arch, the Devil’s Kitchen and the Blowhole. This evening, mingle with your Travel Director and fellow travellers at a Farewell Dinner in one of Hobart’s fine restaurants. (B,FD)

Day 12: Farewell from Hobart

Say farewell to your fellow travellers when your holiday comes to an end this morning after breakfast. (B)
