FROM NOWHERE TO NOWHERE The Normanton to Croydon railway has always remained fully isolated from the Queensland Rail network. This remote railway is heritage listed and the only line in Queensland still measured in miles. Affectionately said to go from “nowhere to nowhere”.

ONE OF A KIND
Today most of the line retains the original rail and sleepers laidbetween 1888 and 1891. An ingenuous steel sleeper system allows seasonal flood waters to flow gently over the line to prevent flood damage during the heavy wet seasons of the Gulf; a design not found anywhere else in the world.

A TALE TO TELL
The driver and guard onboard the Gulflander are accredited Savannah Guides. During your journey you will learn about the diverse Gulf landscape and its rich past. With fascinating trivia, species identification, amusing stories and colourful characters, staff aboard the Gulflander will keep you entertained throughout.

NORMANTON RAILWAY STATION

CRITTER’S CAMP
A very popular destination for our special services. Named by track workers for the variety of creepy crawlies they encountered while camped here, this is definitely not your ordinary railway stop.

BLACKBULL SIDING
The traditional stop for morning tea since 1890, Blackbull Siding offers the opportunity to stretch your legs and enjoy a cuppa with other travellers. Purchase morning tea with your Gulflander experience and receive a souvenir mug to take away with you.

CROYDON RAILWAY STATION
Croydon Station is your gateway to historic gold rush town, Croydon. Relics of Croydon’s proud mining history and former glory can be seen throughout the surrounds of the community.
